Review of The Einstein Pool by Jake Danger

When prominent physicist Daniel Bose has a near-death experience, he converts from atheism to Christianity and joins a group of Catholic physicists investigating claims of the paranormal on behalf of the Vatican. One of his assignments takes him to a small town in northern Thailand to investigate a powerful local witch who is rumored to dispatch her enemies by means of retroactive abortion – she travels backwards in time and kills their direct ancestors, thereby ensuring that they will never be born in the first place. Dr. Bose only gradually comes to realize that this scenario is intertwined with the life of a passionate young Laotian beauty and the mystery of a 3,000-year-old manuscript written in modern American English.

This novella could best be classified as Christian science fiction, and not your momma's version either. It would probably never make it past the censors at any Christian bookstore (neither would the Bible, when you think about it). It also incorporates strong elements of paranormal romance. The plot moves so quickly that the book gives the feeling of being much longer than its 26,330 words. Brilliantly interwoven plot elements, strong intellectual appeal and at least one unforgettable character. 4.5/5 stars.
